University Accounts

Logging in to Your Student Information System

Your Student Information System (SIS) account is your university command center. You must be matriculated in order to access your SIS account.

You’ll use SIS to:

  • View and remove holds
  • Register for classes
  • Pay tuition
  • View final grades

To log in to SIS, you will need to activate your CWRU Network ID. Your ID will never change and will remain yours throughout your program and after graduation.

Activating Your CWRU Network ID

Your CWRU Network ID is created for you as soon as you are accepted to CWRU. To activate your Network ID, follow the instructions below:

  1. Start by visiting our activation page.
  2. Enter your last name (also sometimes called your family name).
  3. Enter your seven-digit PeopleSoft ID number (included in your Welcome email).
  4. Enter your date of birth.
  5. Click the “Activate Account” button.

During the activation process, you will create your password and supply a security question and answer. Once complete, the system will show you your Network ID and email address, which will be ready to use within an hour.

Password Requirements

Your Network ID password must be changed at least once every 365 days. You will receive email notifications prior to its expiration date. Your password can be changed at any time by visiting help.case.edu and clicking on the “Change Password” link.

CWRU passwords must contain three of the following four characteristics:

  • Lowercase character (abc)
  • Uppercase character (ABC)
  • Numerical character (123)
  • Punctuation character (#!&%$)

Additionally, your password:

  • Cannot be a dictionary word of more than four characters
  • Must be 8–12 characters in length

CWRU will never ask you for your password or any other restricted information. Never give it out.

CWRU Network ID Support

If you have any questions or concerns while activating your CWRU Network ID, contact the Help Desk at 216-368-4357, help@case.edu or start a live chat or submit an online request at help.case.edu. You’ll need to provide your CWRU Network ID and explain the issue you are experiencing. The Help Desk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Setting Up Your Email Account

Your CWRU email address is where we’ll send all program-related communications. You can forward your mail from this address to any email address you wish to use. To set up your CWRU email address, you must first activate your CWRU Network ID.

Your CWRU email address is your firstname.lastname@case.edu (e.g., john.doe@case.edu) unless you share the same name with someone else on campus; in which case, your email address will contain a middle initial and/or number. Alternatively, email can also be sent to yournetworkid@case.edu (e.g., abc123@case.edu). Both email formats will be sent to the same email inbox.

To access your email, go to webmail.case.edu and sign in with your CWRU Network ID and password. Your email is accessible from any computer or mobile device in the world.

IMPORTANT: All email communication from Case Western Reserve University will be sent to your CWRU email address. Please check on a regular basis to ensure you do not miss any important correspondence.

Email questions or concerns? Contact the UTech Service Desk at 216-368-HELP (4357), help@case.edu or help.case.edu.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

CWRU provides remote users with secure access to the network over a virtual private network (VPN), called FortiClient VPN. VPN is a point-to-point connection between a personal computer and CWRU servers. You must first download the VPN client for your computer’s operating system. Once you are connected through VPN, you can utilize a web browser to access various tools within CWRU such as the Software Center and library databases.

To download, visit vpnsetup.case.edu.

CWRU uses two-factor authentication, called Duo, with the VPN service. Two-factor authentication provides added security by prompting you for a unique code in addition to your password.
